My name is Janiece Allison and I am a designer who was born and raised in Charlotte, NC. I was always a very creative child growing up. I spent most of my days with my head down drawing, writing stories (that would eventually become amateur comic books), and teaching myself to play various instruments. When I imagined my future as a working adult, I was worried that there wasn’t a place for me in the workforce. I kept up with my passions all through high school and went to college and decided to major in New Media & Design at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro.
I have always been interested in computers (I was a natural in computer programming classes in high school) and being exposed to the design industry in college was the best thing that ever happened to me. I realized that I could work in a field that allowed me to use my creativity to tell stories for brands and I could put my passions to work daily. I immediately began to stay up almost every night and teach myself to be very proficient in every program of the creative suite and I got good enough to begin working professionally before I graduated. My long history of self-teaching, passion for art and design, and working in a wide variety of work environments has made me a very adaptable and effective designer. I can come into nearly any workplace and adapt and succeed. However, I am not looking for any workplace. I am looking for a workplace that values design, values every human that works in that space (and shows it), and also values working towards a common goal rather than individual agendas.
“I LIKE USING MY BRAIN AND COMING UP WITH DESIGN SOLUTIONS (AND ITERATING ON THEM UNTIL THEY ARE PROBLEM-SOLVING MACHINES) 1,000,000X MORE THAN I LIKE PING PONG TABLES AND UNLIMITED COFFEE. I AM A DESIGNER. LET ME USE MY SKILLS AND DESIGN STUFF AND I’M SOLD.”
